The Dream Wedding Singer

The first thing that you must understand is that I don’t/cannot sing, and then you can only guess at my surprise when I was asked to sing a song for a friend’s wedding. The facts surrounding this miraculous event are still somewhat gray in my mind, as I was dreaming. Duh, that probably goes without saying when you’re the person that sings in her truck with the windows up and yet, gets flipped off for the wrong notes, and the loud and “not-so” melodious voice, by others attempting to wait quietly for the light to change.

I can, only, guess at why the dream occurred. Perhaps it was something in the program that was on when I fell asleep, or maybe it was something that I read earlier in the week. I didn’t recognize the face of the bride-to-be that showered me with praise for my wonderful singing voice. To add further shock and dismay to the request, in my dream, I awakened screeching out a song whose lyrics escape me, at the moment, and with the cat staring at me as if my mind had finally taken the last gasps of sanity.

There are two things that I do not do on a regular basis; 1) sing…we’ve pretty well established the “why’s” in the preceding paragraphs, and 2) dance, because I have two left feet, both of which threaten to take me down almost daily. Realizing one’s short-comings avoids many of the embarrassing moments in life, and God knows, I truly don’t need to add to my moments of glory while smacking a wall, falling in a parking lot, and backing off unseen edges that leave me black and blue from the experience.

The true klutz, in me, is very much aware that there are times to sing and times to walk and neither should be attempted at the same time.

Never worry, never fret, and forget about the small stuff.

  1. When my kids were little, they would say, "don't sing Momma, just let us sing!" Obviously I cannot carry a tune!
